Caravan • a community studio
ROLE: Founder & Creative Director.
A creative studio founded in 2017, I built Caravan on a few simple yet powerful ideas. Experience over ownership, connection, and inclusion in place of exclusion and privilege, exploration as a gateway to discovery; these are the ideas that Caravan was built to foster. An alternate take on traditional paid media advertising, we championed community and invited brands to do the same.

Caravan highlights:
• created a community campout video for REI
• introduced numerous people to surfing in the Northeast with the help of Cinnamon Rainbows Surf Shop and adventure brand Battenwear
• hosted culturally focused and inquisitive dumpling clubs through our community supper series
• organized a community workout with professional pole vaulter Mary Saxer
• rode bikes across the Arizona Trail, exploring the ideas of community and adventure along the way

Early Release • community surf trip
Background
You've just gotta love summer Fridays, when that 'school’s out for summer' feeling hits. Every. Single. Week.
And nowhere does that feeling land more squarely than in Boston, where summer is fleeting and the wilds – be it mountainside views or coastal joys – are only a short drive away.
That's why, one sunny summer day, we packed 20 people into a caravan of cars and hit the road to Hampton, New Hampshire, for a surf session like no other.
In the spirit of that 'school’s out' feeling we aptly named the event "Early Release."
Graphics
To kick things off, we built a small kit of illustrated graphics (think 80's - 90's & saved by the bell) to communicate summer fun and promote the trip.
Sponsorship & Authenticity
We partnered with visionary surf/adventure brand, Battenwear, to provide sponsorship and drive authenticity.
Battenwear, being awesome, provided several pieces of surf-centric swag to be raffled off to the group.
Discovery & active participation
Knowing that the majority of our community would be first-time surfers, we leveraged our existing relationship with local surf shop and
community pillar, cinnamon rainbows, to provide surf lessons and rentals for the group.
Breaking Bread
It's a known fact: surfing leads to hunger. That's exactly why we thought ahead and worked with
hyper-local Throwback Brewery to set up a family style table where our community gathered around great food & drink.
Content
Throughout the event, we captured beautiful, authentic content that can be fed back into social channels for all participating individuals and brands,
in turn organically growing brand awareness, reach, and engagement.
